Lehigh University Emergency Medical Services (LUEMS) is a Pennsylvania Department of Health certified Basic Life Support Quick Response Service (BLS QRS) servicing Lehigh's campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when classes are in session. All EMS crews are staffed by volunteer students.

What is a BLS QRS?

  • Basic life Suppport (BLS) is medical care designed for patients with life-threatening illness or injury until the patient can be given full medical care.
  • Quick Response Service (QRS) is emergency medical services provided without an ambulance. A QRS is designed to arrived on scene before the ambulance and provide initial life support.

Why is LUEMS important?

Lehigh University EMS provides two very important services to the Lehigh Community and to the City of Bethlehem.

  • LUEMS averages a 4 minute response time. This means the first wave of emergency care arrives almost instantly.
  • LU EMS reduces strain on City of Bethlehem EMS. LUEMS can evlaute the patient and help them decide if ambulance transport is nessicary. Also, when patients must go to the hospital, LUEMS prepares them reducing the time City of Bethlehem EMS must remain on scene.
