Senior Computing Consultant, LTS Client Services - Administrative Computing Team

Job Family - Information Technology
Job Function - Assist faculty, staff, students, and other users of LTS services in the design, implementation and use of computing and communication systems and other information technologies. Provide documentation, training, and consulting services in the efficient and effective use of such systems and technologies. Diagnose and resolve problems relating to theses systems. Advise and provide technical expertise relating to these areas.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide technology-related consulting and support services to faculty, staff, and/or students
 
o Research, resolve and follow up on software, hardware and/or network problems
 
o Install and test software upgrades for compatibility with existing applications and hardware
 
o Identify and resolve problems caused by malicious software, such as viruses, worms and spyware
 
o Consult and assist with data recovery and system images
*
Provide training and documentation on the effective, efficient and secure use of computing and communication services
 
o Instruct clients in efficient use of software, hardware, network and other computing resources
 
o Analyze and evaluate incident reports and make recommendations; contact software and hardware vendors to request service or consultation
 
o Document procedures and settings required to ensure secure and consistent system configurations
 
o Develop and disseminate technical documentation, including instructional guides, FAQs and tip sheets

Facilitate the advancement and integration of rapidly developing tools and technology
 
o Use self-study training materials and lab resources to learn new and existing tools and technologies
 
o Maintain competencies with software and hardware advancements through research, listservs, technology websites, vendor-sponsored exhibitions, and internal and external training courses to respond to client needs and facilitate future solutions

Provide specialized support for Administrative Offices, Business Services, Athletics, Facilities and other non-academic units
 
o Provide support for networked calendar software including configuration, specialized training, documentation, handheld device synchronization and beta testing
 
o Research, test, recommend, configure, and support cellular/WiFi-enabled handheld devices and software to facilitate connections to Lehigh resources
 
o Collaborate with departments who maintain separate servers to ensure that they are kept up to date with operation systems and application software patches and updates, up-to-date realtime antivirus software, firewall protection, and provisions for data backup

Develop and maintain scripts and utilities to automate routine processes and to provide services and reports
*
Distribute software updates on a regular basis using system imaging tools and custom scripts

QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Information Sciences, Instructional Technology, Communications or Engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred
2.
Minimum of three to five years related work experience. Experience working in a higher education environment and/or supporting executive-level clientèle is preferred.
3.
Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and advanced graphics software
4.
Solid analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work independently
5.
Excellent customer service skills
6.
Valid Driver's License
7.
A thorough understanding of internetworking, preferably evidenced by industry certification(s) or coursework
8.
Experience with the following technologies is preferred: web application authoring (Cold Fusion / PHP / MySQL), Macintosh (OS X, Mac Server), disk imaging (Ghost, Acronis), scripting utilities (VB Script, Autolt, PowerShell)
9.
Successful completion of standard background checks: social security verification, education verification, and national criminal background checks
