In addition to the news of our recent success on the NSF grant, this edition of the LTS News focuses on three important topics: accessing and using Lehigh faculty scholarly output through Lehigh Preserve, curating and saving research data for long-term preservation through our Data Curation program, and highlighting security awareness through campus outreach.

Data Curation @ Lehigh: Managing Research Data Through Its Lifecycle

screen shot of Holocene Perspective on Biogeochemistry web site

Researchers continually cull new data from experiments, simulations, observations, surveys and other research activities. The resulting data sets are highly variable in size, ranging from kilobyte-level excel files to megabyte-level high-resolution images. They also vary in format, encompassing paper-based notebooks to multi-media records. Data collection techniques also vary, from hand-typed data entry to high-performance computing. Data curation services are emerging across the higher education to ensure that these data sets are secure, discoverable and re-usable... read more
